For the record

Midwestern State and Angelo State have clinched berths in the next week's Lone Star Conference Championships which will be played at Bruin Field house in Bartlesville, Okla. from March 3-7.

Now, it's all about positioning.

The Mustangs can clinch its fifth overall and second-straight LSC South Division title as well as the No. 1 seed in the South with a win over Angelo State Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Midwestern can finish with no lower than the No. 2 seed. Here are the possible scenarios as Midwestern State and Tarleton State finish the season with a single game against Angelo State.

If MSU defeats the Rams and Angelo State defeats the Texans on Saturday, the Mustangs would be outright division champions. Angelo State would be the No. 2 seed and Tarleton would be No. 3.

If MSU and Tarleton defeat the Rams, the Mustangs and Texans are Co-LSC South champions with the No. 1 seed going to Midwestern. Angelo State could possibly slide into a tie for third with West Texas A&M which the tiebreaker would be determined by the placement of Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

If Angelo State upends MSU, but loses to Tarleton, the Texans would claim an outright LSC South title. The Mustangs would be the No. 2 seed with the Rams grabbing the No. 3.

If Angelo State defeats MSU and Tarleton, all three teams would earn a share of the Co-LSC South title. The Rams (3-1 vs. tied teams) would gain the top seed, while Midwestern (2-2 vs. tied teams) would be No. 2 and Tarleton (1-3 vs. tied teams) would be No. 3.

At No. 2 in the South Central Region rankings, Midwestern State definitely has its eye on hosting the regionals which will be held from March 13-16 on the campus of the top-ranked team.

Central Missouri currently holds the top spot with a 24-1 overall record.

The Mustangs own NCAA Division II's fifth longest home court winning with 25 consecutive victories under the dome at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

About the opponent

Angelo State had its six-game winning streak snapped at West Texas A&M last Wednesday, but bounced back with an 84-72 win at home over Eastern New Mexico Saturday night at Stephens Arena.
