WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 21 Midwestern State rolled to its 499th win at D.L. Ligon Coliseum with a 104-55 thrashing of NAIA Mid-America Christian Thursday night.
The win was the 10th-straight for the Mustangs, who improved 10-1 on the season.
MSU goes for its 500th win since Ligon Coliseum opened in 1969 Monday night against Newman University. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. or 25 minutes following the conclusion of the women's contest which begins at 6.
The Mustangs used an 18-2 run to take control of the contest after the Evangels took their last lead of the contest at 4-3 on a Nathan Pratt free throw wihth 17:49 to play in the opening half.
Senior forward
Charlie Logan converted a layup in transition and
Deuce Nichols and
Kevin Loyd followed with back-to-back treys to ignite the run as the Mustangs extended the lead to 21-6 on a
Chris Hagan-to-Logan alley-oop with 12:28 left until halftime.
The Mustangs would push the lead to 40-25 when Hagan found
Chris Buttermore for another highlight alley-oop with 3:12 to go.
It was all MSU in the second half as the Mustangs used the break to outscore the Evangels 16-0 in transition to claim a 26-4 edge in fast break points for the game.
Midwestern would lead by as many as 51 points in the second as Hagan scored 17 of his game-high 23 points after intermission to go along with nine assists.
Junior guard
Michael Loyd added 13 points off the bench while Nichols and
Keonte' Logan had 11 points each and
Adrian Van Buren pitched in 10 points in his first game of the season.
Brandon Williams paced Mid-America Christian with 14 points in the exhibition contest for the Evangels.
