WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 24 Midwestern State showed it had what it took to extend its homecourt winning streak to 34 games Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
But it sure had the feel of a road game as Texas A&M-Commerce hit tough shot after tough shot to 60 percent from the field.
It still wasn't enough to offset a 23-point effort by MSU's
Chris Hagan as the Mustangs came away with a 102-94 Lone Star Conference crossover victory.
The win was the ninth-straight for Midwestern which improved to 9-1 on the season. The Mustangs return to action on Thurs., Dec. 30 when they take on Mid-America Christian at Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
Led by junior forward Desmond King, the Lions certainly didn't make it easy.
The 6-7 Alexandria, La. product poured in 19 of his game-high 28 points in the opening half and helped Texas A&M-Commerce out to a 27-21 lead on a pair of free throws with 8:33 to go before halftime.
The Mustangs stormed back to score the next seven point to regain the lead on a
Kevin Loyd 3-pointer to surge ahead 28-27 just a minute later. They would never trail again.
Midwestern extended the lead to as many as 17 points in the second half powered by a 17-7 over a 6-minute stretch late in the second half and led 93-76 when Hagan connected a trey from the top of the key with 4:04 to go.
Texas A&M-Commerce would get no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Junior guard
Michael Loyd connected on three 3-pointers to finish with 18 points before fouling out in 21 minutes.
Junior forward
Charlie Logan logged a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while
Darrick Thomas added nine points and 12 rebounds.
Texas A&M-Commerce's Tyris Dowell added career night with 22 points four rebounds and six assists while Preston Whitley had 17 points and four rebounds off of the bench.
The Lions fell to 7-3 on the season.
