Game Day: Mustangs play host to Texas Woman's Saturday at Ligon Coliseum

Setting the Stage

Midwestern State returns to the comfortable confines of D.L. Ligon Coliseum to take on Texas Woman's University in a Lone Star Conference crossover Saturday afternoon.
 
The Mustangs (2-5) look to snap a two-game skid in the single-game contest which tips at 2 p.m.

About the Mustangs

Junior forward Savannah Carver has led the Mustangs in scoring in each of the last four games including a three-game stretch of scoring at least 20 points.
 
The Canyon Randall High product leads Midwestern and is averaging 15.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
 
Carver upped her career high in three consecutive contests as she netted 20 points against Southeastern Oklahoma, 22 points against East Central (Okla.) and 23 points at Southwestern Oklahoma.
 
She is coming off of an 11-point effort Monday night at Cameron.
 
Junior forward Cierra Thompson (13.0 points and 4.0 rebounds a game) and freshman Kirsti Degelia (12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game) join Carver in double figures.
 
The Mustangs score 71.1 points and allow 66.3 points a game.

About the Pioneers

Texas Woman's University snapped a three-game skid with a 90-43 rout of Paul Quinn (Texas) Tuesday night in Denton.
 
The Pioneers (7-4) rolled out to a 5-1 start which included victories over No. 11 California-San Diego and No. 13 Alaska-Anchorage before falling in consecutive games to LSC South Division foes Angelo State, West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico.
 
TWU is paced by senior guard Brooke Shepherd who averages 12.9 points and has connected on 35 treys in 11 games thus far this season.
 
Junior guard Jessica Hanna drops in 11.9 points and pulls in six rebounds a game, while senior guard Kayla Weaver notches 11.1 points and pulls in 5.6 rebounds a game.
 
Junior forward Jeanee' Thompson gives the Pioneers added strength on the block with 8.0 points and 7.8 rebounds a contests, while freshman guard Thabbatha Thurmond adds 9.5 points and 4.6 rebounds off of the bench.
 
Texas Woman's is 1-1 on the opponent's home floor this season.
 
The Pioneers tally 67.6 points per game and allow 61.5.
