Game Day: Midwestern goes for seventh straight win Monday at Cameron

Setting the Stage

Midwestern State efforts for its seventh straight victory Monday night's Lone Star Conference crossover contest Monday night against Cameron at Aggie Gym.
 
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 6.

About the Mustangs

Dominance has been the theme for unranked and defending South Central Region and Lone Star Conference champion Midwestern State since suffering an 81-76 setback to No. 6 Fort Hays State in the season opener.
 
The Mustangs have streaked to six consecutive wins by an average an average margin of 28 points - all by double digits.
 
Defense has been the key to success. Midwestern has limited the opposition to 47.7 points a game and to 35.5 percent shooting from the field.
 
The Mustangs' defense was on display in their 67-40 win Saturday at Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Bulldogs used a 14-0 run to claim a 20-11 advantage with 8:08 left in the first half.
 
Midwestern held SWOSU without a point for a 9:08 stretch as part of a 21-2 run to take control of the game.
 
The Mustangs have held their last four opponents to less than 50 points.
 
Senior guard Chris Hagan continues to lead the Mustangs at 20.9 points a game including a game-high 21 points in Saturday's win in Weatherford.
 
The Houston native is showing 51.8 percent from the field.

About the Aggies

Cameron remains perfect at Aggie Gym this season at 5-0 which includes Lone Star Conference crossover wins over Tarleton State and Eastern New Mexico.
 
The Aggies slipped to 7-2 Saturday night falling 68-56 to NAIA Science & Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha.
 
Cameron's balanced scoring attack consists of seven players averaging at least 7.2 points a game led by junior guard Milton Garner.
 
Garner tallies 12 points a game to go along with 5.7 rebounds a contest.
 
The Kansas City native is joined sophomore forward Vinicius Telo at 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds a game.
 
Junior guard Thomas Razor gives CU another perimeter threat at 10.2 points per game, while senior forward Nathan Murray is the Aggies' top inside threat at 10 points and 8.1 rebounds a game.
 
Senior forward Terry Dawson and sophomore guard Josh Davis add scoring punch averaging 9.5 and 9.3 points a contest, respectively.
 
Cameron scores 66.8 points a game and allows 61.3.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Cameron meet for the 59th time on the hardwood Monday night at Aggie Gym.
 
The Mustangs own a 36-22 edge in the series which dates back to the 1968-69 season and have won the last five meetings of the series including an 86-83 overtime victory last season at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Aggies edged MSU 79-77 for their last win in the series on Dec. 9, 2006 at Aggie Gym and are 18-10 all-time against the Mustangs in Lawton.

Quick Hits

  • Midwestern State has won its last 17 games against Lone Star Conference North Division competition dating back to a 56-55 loss at Northeastern State on Dec. 15, 2008.
     
  • The Mustangs have not trailed in the second half since falling to Fort Hays State in the season on Nov. 12 in Bartlesville. MSU has led tip to buzzer twice this season and trailed as late as the 4:07 mark of the first half Saturday afternoon at Southwestern Oklahoma. Midwestern is 32-3 over the last two seasons when taking a lead into halftime.
