No. 22 Midwestern holds off Texans, 31-26

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 22 Midwestern State ended a seven-game losing streak to Tarleton State by defeating the Texans 31-26 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

Freshman cornerback Neiko Conway returned an interception 99 yards helped the Mustangs extend their advantage to two scores after Lester Bush put MSU up 28-13 with a 1-yard plunge with a second to go in the third quarter.

Conway also made six tackles and blocked a field goal goal as Midwestern improved to 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in the LSC South.

The Mustangs exchanged touchdowns for Tarleton State in the first half as the Texans closed to within 14-13 at intermission as Nick Stephens connected with Jeken Frye on a 34-yard post route with 6:38 to go in the third quarter.

Midwestern scored a pair of touchdowns as Keidrick Jackson burst for a 16-yard score midway through period before Conway's interception set the Mustangs up for a short score right before the buzzer at the end of the third quarter.

Jose Martinez booted a 31-yard field goal to push the MSU lead to 31-13 with 12:06 to go.

Tarleton State's Jerome Regal, who rushed for 113 yards on 13 second-half carries, pulled the Texans within 31-26 with touchdown runs of 30 and 7 yards in the fourth quarter.

Bush paced the MSU ground game with 70 yards on 14 carries while Jackson had 67 yards on seven carries and Chauncey Harris added 46 yards on six totes.

Tarleton State's Jeken Frye posted a game-high 108 receiving yards on four catches and a TD.

Tarleton State fell 2-7 on the season and 1-4 in LSC South play.
