WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Tabitha Yannetti drove in four runs while
Amanda Potysman and
Brittany Dumas crushed home runs to lead Midwestern State to its eighth-straight win in a 13-1 run-rule in five innings over Southwest Baptist Saturday afternoon in the MSU Invitational at Mustangs Park.
The Mustangs (9-4) put the pressure on the Southwest Baptist defense in the opening inning as
Nicki Duff legged out an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch before stealing third and home to give the Mustangs the early advantage.
Jessica Rodriguez would also come plateward courtesy of an error to give MSU a 2-0 lead.
Midwestern kicked the offense into high gear in the second inning as Potysman ignited a two-out, none-on rally by blasting her first home run of the season directly into the teeth of a 25 miles-per-hour north wind and over the left field fence.
The Mustangs would add three more in the frame highlighted by Yannetti's two-run double to go up 6-0.
MSU added two more runs in the third before Dumas sent an opposite-field, three-run shot over the right-field fence to highlight a five-run fourth inning.
Sophomore
Brittney Tanner allowed a run on three hits and struck out four in four innings to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Miranda Jarrell and
Mallory Mooney joined Duff and Yannetti with two hits each as the Mustangs flexed for 11 hits.
Southwest Baptist's Josie Rose was touched up for eight runs - four earned - on seven hits and fell to 3-3 on the season.
The Bearcats dropped to 4-8.
