DURANT, Okla. - Rachel Lynn's leadoff home run in the bottom of the first provided the game's lone score as No. 3 Southeastern Oklahoma State survived Midwestern State 1-0 Friday in the winner's bracket of the Lone Star Conference Softball Championship at the Durant Multi-Sport Complex.
The Mustangs (34-26) will now face Cameron, a 10-4 winner over Central Oklahoma Friday night, at 11 a.m. in an elimination game, while the Savage Storm advances to the winner's bracket final where they will face Angelo State.
The leadoff shot by Lynn was her second of the day as she led off SOSU's 7-1 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville earlier in the day with another homer. She now has four homers on the season.
Meanwhile, SOSU starter Jami McAdoo wiggled out of a bases loaded jam in a three-hit first inning for the Mustangs.
McAdoo limited MSU to just four hits over the next 5 2/3 innings as she retired 10-straight at one point to improve to 23-4 on the season. She fanned two and walked none.
Southeastern ace Marjorie Johnson came on to get the last out of the game to record her seventh save of the season.
But not before she allowed
Amanda Potysman to get with 60-feet of scoring the tying run after she reached on a one-out single to left field in the seventh, advanced to second on a groundout before going to third on a wild pitch by Johnson.
SOSU left fielder Ashley Graham then made a diving catch of
Maranda Bishop's foul pop up down the left-field line to end the game.
Senior
Ashley Kuchenski took the loss for the Mustangs to fall to 6-10 after yielding one run on five hits in two innings.
Katie Petersen came on to shut down the Savage Storm over the remaining four innings as she limited them to four hits while striking out five and walking two.
The sophomore from Plano hasn't allowed a run in her last 11 innings of work.
Potysman paced the Mustangs' seven-hit attack by going 2-for-3, while Kuchenski saw her 13-game hitting streak come to an end despite a solid liner to right field in the seventh inning.
Southeastern's Rachel Sill scooped up the solidly stroked ball then dealt a strike to first base to retire Kuchenski.
Lynn and Bailey Mathes had two hits apiece for the Savage Storm, who improved to 50-8 on the season.
