Petersen one-hits Aggies, MSU wins 7-0 in Game 1

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's Katie Petersen weaved her third-career one-hitter and the Mustangs poured on seven runs in the fourth inning to cruise to a 7-0 Lone Star Conference North Division win Wednesday over Cameron at Mustangs Park.

Petersen extended her scoreless inning streak to 25 2/3 innings to improve to 19-4 on the season.

The sophomore right-hander from Plano has not allowed a run since there were two outs in the fifth inning in a 6-4 loss to No. 2 Angelo State last Friday at the Lone Star Conference Crossover in Durant.

Since, Petersen hurled a nine-inning three-hitter against Eastern New Mexico on Saturday and a four-hitter against Abilene Christian on Sunday with a pair of scoreless 2/3 of an inning relief appearances sprinkled in.

Petersen face one over the minimum while striking out four and walking one as Cameron's Shareena Pulse reached on a bunt single in the second inning and Sammi Adams worked a two-out walk in the sixth before she was caught stealing.

The Mustangs jumped on Cameron starter Ashton McBride in the fourth inning when MSU sent 10 batters to the plate.

The Mustangs loaded the bases before Lauren Craig delivered a run-scoring single to left, Petersen drew a bases-loaded out and Kellie Sledge drove in another with a fielder's choice when Cameron third baseman Melissa Bour was unable to handle a toss from Megan Young going for the MSU runner at third base.

After Maranda Bishop reached on a fielder's choice when Young cut down Craig at the plate for the second out, Lindsey Voigt crushed her second grand slam of the season to give the Mustangs a seven-run lead.

Voigt paced a six-hit Midwestern attack by going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

MSU extended its winning streak to five games to improve to 28-15 on the season and 9-4 in LSC North Division play, while Cameron dropped to 25-22 and 3-6.
