Mustangs begin second half of division play today against Cameron

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State opens the second half of Lone Star Conference North Division play with a doubleheader against Cameron Wednesday afternoon at Mustangs Park.

The Mustangs bounced back from dropping their first three games at the LSC Crossover in Durant last weekend by winning their final four games at the event.

MSU completed the month of March with an 18-7 record and are now 27-15 for the season and 8-4 in the LSC North, while Cameron comes in with a 25-21 overall mark and a 3-5 divisional record.

The Mustangs are led by sophomore ace Katie Petersen, who has won 18 of her last 20 decisions and leads the LSC with a 0.96 ERA. The Plano native has allowed 93 hits while striking out 119 and walking 27 in 124 1/3 innings of work.

Meanwhile, Ashley Kuchenski delivered quality starts in each of her last three outings.

The senior southpaw pitched four scoreless innings at Texas Woman's last Wednesday before allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking one against West Texas A&M on Saturday.

Kuchenski finished the weekend by limiting Texas A&M-Kingsville to one run on three hits while striking out five and walking one in 6 1/3 innings on Sunday to go 2-1 last week.

The Mustangs will face the nation's best home run hitting lineup as the Aggies have crushed 64 home runs thus far this season – an average of 1.4 per game.

Cameron boasts four players with 10-or-more homers as junior Shareena Pulse leads the LSC with 15 long balls, while juniors Jenna Boren and Chelsey Jordan have 11 each and junior Megan Young has 10.

While the Aggies dig the long ball, they also surrender it.

The Cameron pitching staff has an ERA of 5.24 and has allowed 421 hits, 64 doubles and 44 homers in just under 300 innings this season.

The Aggies score 6.2 runs a game, but allow six a contest.

The Mustangs own an 11-5 edge over Cameron, but the Aggies won three of the four games played between the teams last season.

MSU is 6-2 against Cameron in Wichita Falls, but this will be the Aggies first appearance at Mustangs Park.

First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
