Mustangs fall to No. 8 Southeastern Oklahoma in 10 innings

DURANT, Okla. – Ashley Graham's two-run homer off the scoreboard in left field lifted No. 8 Southeastern Oklahoma State to a 7-5 win over Midwestern State in the 10th inning Friday afternoon at the SOSU Softball Field.

Graham's 11th long ball of the year spoiled a valiant effort by the Mustangs spearheaded by a 4-for-4 day by sophomore shortstop Tabitha Yannetti.

MSU fought back from a 2-0 deficit after Savage Storm starter Marjorie Johnson launched a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the third.

Yannetti keyed a two-run, two-hit fourth inning as the Mustangs knotted the game at 2-2 when her double to the right-field gap scored Jessica Rodriguez and Maranda Bishop.

MSU took then took the lead in the fifth inning Kristen Stonecipher's run-scoring single to left plated Lindsey Voigt, who had reached on a walk and advanced to third on a pair of Johnson wild pitches.

But Stonecipher would leave the game with an injury after she was called out trying to stretch the single into a double.

After the Savage Storm tied the game in the bottom of the frame, the Mustangs regained the lead in the top of the sixth when Alyson Reynolds' single to right scored Yannetti, who had reached on her third-straight double.

But Southeastern rallied for a run in the bottom of the sixth to send the game to extra frames.

The Mustangs again took the lead in the top of the 10th when Voigt scored on Amanda Potysman's groundout to third.

Petersen lost for just the third time in her last 23 decision to fall to 20-4. The sophomore allowed seven runs – four earned – on 17 hits, while striking out eight and walking two.

Johnson improved to 19-3 after allowing five runs – four earned – on eight hits while striking out 13 and walking five in 10 innings.

Midwestern State dropped to 29-18 on the season and 10-7 in the LSC North Division, while Southeastern Oklahoma State improved to 38-7 and 11-2.
