Five-run inning too much to overcome, MSU falls in Game 2, 5-3

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Central Oklahoma broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the sixth inning, then held on for a 5-3 win over Midwestern State in Game 2 Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.

The loss snapped a season-best seven-game winning streak for the Mustangs, who fell to 17-10 on the season and 4-2 in Lone Star Conference North Division play.

MSU senior Kristen Stonecipher pulled the Mustangs within three runs with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.

But the Mustangs stranded three runners in the final two innings, but did plate another run in the seventh on a Jessica Rodriguez sacrifice fly.

UCO starter Molly Shivers (2-0) claimed the win for the Bronchos despite yielding three runs – one earned – on five hits while striking six and walking four.

Alli Blake hurled a hitless seventh inning to notch her fifth save of the season.

Ashley Kuchenski took the loss for the Mustangs to fall to 2-3.

Midwestern State travels to Edmond to complete the four-game set with Central Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch for the twin bill at Broncho Field is slated for 1 p.m.
