DURANT, Okla. – Deuces were too much for Midwestern State Friday afternoon at the Lone Star Conference Crossover at the Multi-Sports Complex .
Tarleton State connected on three two-run homers and scored two runs in four different inning to defeat the Mustangs 8-4.
MSU, who lost 6-4 earlier in the day to No. 2 Angelo State, fell to 23-14, while the TexAnns improved to 14-15.
Tarleton State was fueled by a pair of two-run homers by Brittany Terry in the second and fourth inning before Brittnee Rice added a two-run pinch hit shot in the sixth to spell doom for the Mustangs.
MSU starter Brittany Tanner, who fell to 3-7, was touched up for eight runs – seven earned – and nine hits in six inning while striking out five and walking none.
Midwestern State clawed for a run in the fourth before
Alyson Reynolds launched her second homer of the season – a two-run shot- in the sixth inning to pull MSU to 6-4.
But that's when Rice lined a shot over the left-field fence to push the Tarleton advantage back to four.
Lauren Zearfoss allowed four runs on eight hits to improve to 6-3 for the TexAnns.
MSU sophomore
Lauren Craig paced an eight-hit attack by going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while
Jessica Rodriguez and
Kristen Stonecipher reached three times while going 1-for-2.
The Mustangs continue crossover play Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against West Texas A&M, then play two more games against Eastern New Mexico at 4:30 p.m. and Texas Woman's University at 6:30 p.m.
