MSU to battle Eastern New Mexico in season finale on Saturday

Midwestern State battles Eastern New Mexico in its season finale Saturday at Greyhound Arena.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

For the record

Midwestern State (9-17, 3-9) has lost seven-straight games for the first time since the 1995-96 season. With a win, the Mustangs would avert their second season with less than 10 wins in the Shannon Burks. MSU has suffered just three seasons with less than 10 wins in the last 31 years.

Eastern New Mexico (4-22, 1-12) has lost its last five games and 14 of its last 15. The Zias own a season sweep of New Mexico Highlands and are 2-20 against everyone else with its only coming against Southeastern Oklahoma (67-55) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (66-60) – both at Greyhound Arena.

Who's hot

Kaylon Hodge scored a season-high 15 points in Wednesday night's loss to Texas Woman's University. The senior from Hillsboro hit her first two 3-pointers of the season and finished 6-of-8 from the field. Hodge has shot 62.9-percent (18-of-28) from the field over her past three contests. She scored 14 points to go along with six assists and six steals against Angelo State on Feb. 20 before notching 10 points and pulling down seven rebounds at Abilene Christian last Saturday.

Eastern New Mexico's Til Lois Fifer has led the Zias in scoring 12 times this season. Fifer averaged 15 points while pacing ENMU in scoring in each of its last two games. The 5-11 forward from Tulia is averaging 10.3 oints and 5.5 rebounds as a true freshman. She scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a 70-54 loss to MSU on Feb. 2 in Wichita Falls.

The series

Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico have split the 26 games played between the schools. The Mustangs are 5-7 all time at Greyhound Arena.

Morrison hits 100th 3-pointer

Midwestern State senior forward Brittni Morrison became the eighth player in program history hit 100 3-pointers last Saturday when she hit three treys at Abilene Chrsitian. Burks now has 101 in her three seasons in Wichita Falls. The senior from Archer City has made 123 3s during in her collegiate career counting the 22 she made as  freshman at Southeastern Oklahoma State during the 2004-05 season. Morrison's 59 3-point makes this season are tied for the third most in school history with Heather O'Neal (1998-99) and current teammate Brandy Moore.

Moore likes the trey

Despite missing four games due to injury, senior guard Brandy Moore tied former standout Julie Lovett for the second-most 3-pointers in singles season by hitting three 3-pointers Wednesday night against Texas Woman's. Lovett knocked down 62 treys in 1996-97. Moore is leading the conference and is 21st in all of NCAA Division II with 2.8 3-pointers per game. It would take a super effort for the San Antonio native to catch all-time single season 3-point leader Lynn Buckmaster. Buckmaster is currently 12 made 3-pointers ahead of Moore, but needed 34 games to accomplish. Had Moore stayed healthy and continued at her current pace, she would have had 73 going into Saturday's contest.
