Midwestern State battles Eastern New Mexico in its season finale Saturday at Greyhound Arena.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 6.
For the record
 Â
The Mustangs (12-13, 4-7) have lost three of their last four games and were officially eliminated for postseason contention when Angelo State defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 56-54 Wednesday night in Kingsville.
Eastern New Mexico (6-20, 0-11) has lost its last 11 games and is trying to avoid being the third team to go winless in divisional play since the Lone Star Conference adopted the current format beginning in the 1997-98 season. Angelo State was 0-12 during the 2005-06 season, while Eastern New Mexico recorded an 0-14 mark for the 1999-2000 season.
What's at stake
 Â
With a win, Midwestern State will avoid a second losing season during the
Jeff Ray era. MSU went 11-15 in 1997-98 before rattling off a pair of Lone Star Conference championships in the next two seasons. MSU will also miss the postseason for the third time in the Ray, but if history is telling the Mustangs can expect to win a conference title next season. Midwestern missed the LSC postseason tournament in 1997-98, then won conference championships in 1999 and 2000. After missing the postseason in 2006, the Mustangs rolled to a 24-7 mark and a league title last season.
Who's hot
 Â
Nolan Richardson IV has scored 10-or-more points in 11 of his last 12 games and been honored as Lone Star Conference South Division Player of the Week two this season. Richardson has averaged 23.5 points over the past two games and has scored eight points in the final minute against Angelo State and Abilene Christian. The junior transfer from Hutchinson (Kan.) Junior College is averaging 16.8 points and 5.3 assists during LSC South Division play and is second in the conference in free-throw shooting at 87.2 percent (34-of-39).
Eastern New Mexico Justin Redman-Trotter has paced the Greyhounds in scoring in each of the last three games and 24.7 points during the recent stretch. Redman-Trotter, who is fourth in the LSC in scoring with an 18.1 points per game average, has scored at least 20 points in 13 games this season including three games of more than 30 points. He poured in a season-high 33 points in an 86-69 loss at Southwestern Oklahoma on Jan. 10 and scored 21 in a 78-67 setback to Midwestern State on Feb. 2 at Ligon Coliseum. The Greyhounds are 2-12 when Redman-Trotter leads them in scoring and 3-8 when another player leads the way.
The series
 Â
Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico have split the 28 games played between the schools, but the Mustangs have won the last two. MSU is 5-8 all time at Greyhound Arena.
Moving up the charts
 Â
Jeremy Ford, who leads the Lone Star Conference in made 3-pointers with three per game, is quickly moving up the school's all-time trey list. Ford hit five 3-pointers last Saturday at Abilene Christian to move past Jovani Allen (128 3's, 2002-04) and into sixth place on MSU's all-time 3-point make list. Ford, who now has 132 career 3-pointers, needs three to pass former standout Gume Ibarra to move into fifth. Ibarra made 134 treys during his career which spanned from 1989-90 and 1991-92. Ford moved past Jerry Perry(68 3s in 1994-95) into 10th place on MSU's single-season 3-point makes list with a pair treys against Angelo State on Feb. 20 at Ligon Coliseum. Ford now has 75 3-pointers this season and needs four more to pass Jay January (2004-05), Jovani Allen (2002-03) and former teammate
Drew Coffman (2006-07) as each hit 78.
