Midwestern falls to Saint Leo, 2-1

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Tatiana Casis' lead-off homer in the fourth inning provided the difference for Saint Leo as the Lions claimed a 2-1 win over Midwestern State Sunday morning in the Eckerd College Spring Invitational at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.

Casis spoiled a solid performance by MSU senior Ashley Kuchenski, who fell to 2-2 on the season.

The southpaw allowed two runs - one earned - on six hits while striking out five and walking none.

Saint Leo cashed in on a Mustangs' error in the third to take a 1-0 lead.

Heather Stroud lined a single to right field and eventually scored when MSU shortstop Tabitha Yannetti mishandled Amanda Patrick's grounder up the middle.

Casis' homer gave the Lions a two-run lead before the Mustangs struck for a run inthe fourth as Lindsey Voigt delivered an RBI-double plate Alyson Reynolds, who had doubled to lead off the inning.

That was all the Mustangs could muster off of Saint Leo ace Ashley Urbanik, who allowed and earned run on eight hits while stirking out seven and walking one.

The Mustangs fell to 9-7, while Saint Leo improved to 8-1.
