AUSTIN, Texas – Midwestern State opens the season tonight when it faces host St. Edward's in the St. Edward's Shootout at the Recreation and Convocation Center with a slated 8 p.m. tipoff.
The Mustangs split a pair of exhibition games last week at D.L. Ligon Coliseum falling to NAIA Division I champion Oklahoma City University 83-78 on Saturday before rallying to upend Wayland Baptist 68-64 Tuesday night.
Midwestern was paced by a quartet of players averaging in double figures.
Senior guard 
Chris Davis averaged 17 points and six rebounds per game, while junior transfer 
Trajinski Grigsby had 14 points and 5.5 boards per game.
Senior post 
Christopher Reay had 11.5 points and five rebounds a game, while junior guard 
Nolan Richardson IV averaged 11 points and 5.5 assists a contest.
St. Edward's is led by preseason Division II Bulletin All-American Shawn  Weinstein who averaged 15.6 points a game last season.
The Hilltoppers advanced to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament last season before bowing out to eventual region champion Central Missouri.
St. Edward's is favored to win its third-straight Heartland Conference title this season.
The Mustangs close the shootout on Saturday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. against Texas A&M-International.
The Dustdevils, who are under the direction of first-year coach Stephone Leary, went 12-15 last season while competing in the Heartland Conference.
Texas A&M-International is 0-1 this season after falling to Division I Texas-Pan American 101-77 Wednesday night.
