No. 11 MSU shuts out Oklahoma Panhandle twice

GOODWELL, Okla. – The 11th-ranked Midwestern State University softball team posted its third and fourth consecutive shutouts by blanking Oklahoma Panhandle State 5-0 and 11-0 in non-conference action Monday afternoon.

The Mustangs (31-8) have posted 10 shutouts on the season, five of them in the last six games. The game one victory also gave MSU head coach Brady Tigert his 100th win at MSU.

Ashley Kuchenski went the distance on the mound for MSU in game one, striking out three with no walks while allowing eight hits to go to 12-3 on the season.

Brittany Willson pitched the five innings necessary to beat OPSU, allowing two hits and a walk. Willson struck out 10 Lady Aggies to run her record to 19-5 on the season.  She tallied her sixth shutout to lower her ERA to 1.28 on the season.

Kristen Stonecipher, Rachael Jackson and Jessica Rodriguez led the way offensively for MSU as the trio each collected 3 RBI on the day.

Stonecipher went 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles and Jackson was 3-of-7 with a double and a triple.

MSU waited until the third inning in game one to score on OPSU, as a Jackson RBI single plated Stephanie Wardlaw and an fielding error allowed Stonecipher to score.

In the top of the fourth, Chantelle Lee led off the inning with a triple and was driven home by Allison Tidwell.  After a Stonecipher double, Rodriguez doubled to score Tidwell and Stonecipher for all the runs in the contest.

Game No. 2 featured MSU scoring early and often, plating runs in every inning but the fifth.  The Mustangs collected three first inning and five second inning runs in the runaway.

MSU is in action again on Wednesday at Abilene Christian in a key doubleheader between the regionally ranked teams.  The first pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
