MSU rips Cameron 3-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State University volleyball team broke a 24-match losing streak to Cameron University with a 30-27, 30-28, 32-30 victory Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The victory for the Lady Indians was the first against the Lady Aggies since Oct. 9, 1990 when they beat CU 3-2 in Lawton, Okla.

The victory put MSU's record at 13-5 overall, 1-1 in the Lone Star Conference.  The 13 wins surpasses last season's 12 victories and is one short of the most the team has collected in a season since joining NCAA Division II in 1996.

Shay Velasquez led MSU by hitting .433 with 17 kills in the match and 14 digs.  Candice Main added 15 kills with a .351 hitting percentage.

Rachel Gilmore added 11 kills, with Krissa Johnson collecting nine kills and four blocks.  Allison Schreiber posted 54 assists, an average of 18 a game.

Cameron was paced by Ashley Rikard with 12 kills and three blocks, with Renay Carter adding 10 kills.

MSU leaves conference play to host Dallas Baptist on Tuesday night in a 7 p.m. match at Ligon Coliseum.
