RICHARDSON, Texas – Midwestern State University post Katherine Maples was named to the LSC South Division's second team as the Lone Star Conference postseason awards were announced Monday by league officials.

Maples, who averaged 16.2 points and nine rebounds this season, is the Mustangs' lone honoree.

LSC champion West Texas A&M dominated the South Division's special honors with Emily Brister earning Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors. Alicia Saunders was tapped the division's best defender and Bob Schneider garnered Coach of the Year honors.

Tarleton State's Iveta Griffin and Angelo State's Meghann LeJeune were the South's top newcomers.

Brister and Griffin were joined on the first team by WT's Keisha Monroe, Eastern New Mexico's Tiana Bryant and Texas Woman's Margaret Wimbish.

Southwestern Oklahoma's Julie Dawson earned top honors in the North Division, while teammate Andrea Oldham was named top newcomer.

Northeastern State's Bobbi Jo Truelove was named Defensive Player of the Year and Central Oklahoma's Lizzie Brenner was the top freshman.

Joining Dawson and Oldham on the first team are Cameron's Brittany Cooksey and Joneatta Brown and Northeastern State's Verressa Gaston.

Shelly Pond was tapped Coach of the Year for leading Southwestern Oklahoma to the LSC North Division title.
