THACKERVILLE, Okla. – The Midwestern State women's golf season tees off Sunday at the WinStar Golf Club as the Mustangs compete in the WinStar Invitational. The 54-hole tournament is played over three days during the Labor Day weekend.
Midwestern State, ranked No. 25 in the nation among Division II programs, is one of eight schools competing in the tournament, including West Texas A&M, Angelo State, St. Mary's and Dallas Baptist from the Lone Star Conference. Harding, Southeastern Oklahoma State and University of Missouri – St. Louis are also in the field.
DBU — the defending national champion — is hosting the three-day tournament, which will have the teams playing one round of 18 holes each day. The format allows six players to start with the four best scores counting for the team competition.
Mary Kerr,
Emme Darnold,
Romane Lacoste,
Madison Wert and
Kaetie Samuels are all returning from last year's squad and will be in the lineup this week for the Mustangs. Kinley Pressel is also starting for Midwestern State after transferring from LeTourneau, where she was the SCAC Golfer of the Year last year. She also played at Stephen F. Austin for two years.
Samantha Truong, who appeared in two tournaments as a freshman last year, is competing as an individual this week.
WinStar Golf Club, designed by five-time PGA Tour winner D.A. Weibring, features rolling fairways, strategically placed bunkers and a resort-style landscape nestled between blackjack oaks and the Red River shores.
Midwestern State will play the DBU Classic later this month at the Dallas Athletic Club on Sept. 28 and 29.
