WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 21-ranked Midwestern State and No. 12-ranked Texas Woman's kicked off 22 hours later than originally scheduled due to inclement weather on Saturday night, but it was worth the wait for the Mustangs, who handed the Pioneers their first loss of the season.
Madison Brinkley scored her third goal of the season, and MSU (9-0-1, 5-0-1) extended its home unbeaten streak to 26 games with a 1-0 victory on Sunday evening at Stang Park. Midwestern State is 6-0-0 at home this season.
Bella Rose headed a corner kick whipped in from the right side by Lexi Gonzales to the far left post, and Brinkley got it past TWU goalkeeper Faith Graves in the seventh minute of the match. It was only the second goal this season conceded by the Pioneers, who had posted seven consecutive clean sheets. TWU (9-1-0, 5-1-0) had a nine-game winning streak snapped and suffered its 12th loss in 16 visits to Stang Park.
Midwestern State was outshot by TWU, 12-7, but the Pioneers only managed one shot on goal. The Mustangs have not allowed an opponent more than five shots on goal in their last 29 matches.
Lauren Short has eight clean sheets and one combined shutout for MSU, which is back on home ground Wednesday night as Oklahoma Christian visits Stang Park at 7 p.m. The first 250 fans in attendance receive a free MSU Koozie sponsored by Pepsi.
