SALEM, Ore. – Parker Plaxco scored his fourth goal in the last three games, and Midwestern State earned its fourth straight win — extending its unbeaten streak to 19 games — with a 4-1 victory over Simon Fraser on Saturday morning at Pioneer Sports Park.
Plaxco gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead when he put away an
Alan Rivera deflection from 14 yards out in the 23rd minute.
Jose Ortiz scored his seventh goal of the season with a powerful left-footed strike from 22 yards out that was set up by an
Ethan Krchnak pass, giving the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage in the 57th minute.
Midwestern State (6-0-2) took a 3-0 lead in the 64th minute when
Oscar Nunez and
Cooper Tea set up
Italo Rodriguez for his second goal of the season, curling in a shot from 10 yards out.
Simon Fraser (1-2-3) scored its only goal of the match off a corner kick in the 73rd minute as Daniel James Jackson headed in his first goal of the season from 15 yards away.
Cooper Tea made the Red Leafs pay for a poor clearance in the 84th minute, slotting in his second goal of the season to close out the scoring.
Midwestern State took nine shots in each half and put nine shots on goal. Simon Fraser was outshot 18-13. Goalkeeper
Jake Morris made three saves for the Mustangs, and Harrison Gough stopped five shots for the Red Leafs.
Midwestern State opens conference play at St. Edward's on Wednesday night. Kickoff at Lewis-Chen Family Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
