Mustangs extend unbeaten streak to 18 games with 1-0 win over Western Oregon

SALEM, Ore. – Midwestern State, ranked No. 6 in the nation, extended its unbeaten streak to 18 games with a 1-0 win over Western Oregon at Pioneer Sports Park on Thursday afternoon.

Parker Plaxco scored his fourth goal of the season in the 54th minute as the Wolves were unable to head a clearance out of their own box, and Plaxco put a header into the back of the net for the only goal of the game.

Plaxco has scored game-winning goals in back-to-back games for the Mustangs after scoring off a long throw from Tanner Tea with seven seconds remaining in the 2-1 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night at Stang Park.

Midwestern State outshot Western Oregon 10-1 in the first half and finished the game with seven of its 17 shots on goal. The Wolves managed just six shots for the game, and MSU goalkeeper Jake Morris made three saves in the victory.

Jose Ortiz took four shots for the Mustangs, forcing Austin Valdez of Western Oregon to make one of his six saves. Valdez stopped two of Cooper Tea's three shots. Davis Mays and Alan Rivera each took two shots, and they both had one shot on frame.

Western Oregon was called for 18 fouls, while the Mustangs committed 13 fouls, and Tanner Tea was shown a yellow card in the 18th minute. Ignacio Brandon, who had one of the two shots on goal for the Wolves, was also booked in the 56th minute.

Midwestern State returns to Pioneer Sports Park on Saturday morning for its final non-conference game against Simon Fraser. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
