Midwestern State concludes road schedule at No. 13 Angelo State

Rambelles sweep Mustangs, who return home on Friday

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Midwestern State (6-40, 4-32 LSC) was swept in a doubleheader against No. 13 Angelo State (42-9, 31-5 LSC) at Mayer Softball Field, suffering losses with final scores of 7–3 and 4–0.

In the first game, the Mustangs scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning but were unable to overcome the Rambelles' six-run fourth inning. The game saw a pivotal moment when Angelo State broke the scoreless tie with a six-run surge in the fourth inning. Ashleigh Dendas started the rally with a walk, followed by Abby Brand's double, and Larryn Feuge's RBI double. Kamryn Loeffler's single added another run, and a single from Kylie Forney brought in two more. Zoey Sifuentes capped the inning with a two-run homer, giving Angelo State a 6–0 lead at the end of the fourth.

The Maroon & Gold responded in the sixth inning with a rally. Mia Sanchez singled, followed by Hayeli Acosta's single. Chipper Mayorga's double brought home Sanchez and Acosta, and Mayorga scored on an error. The three-run inning tightened the game, but Angelo State added a solo home run by Sifuentes.

Mayorga drove in two runs and scored once, contributing significantly to the team's offense. Acosta added a hit and crossed home plate for one of the team's runs. Sierra recorded two hits and pitched 2 1/3 innings, striking out one batter. Sanchez collected a hit, scored a run, and stole a base.. Sierra faced difficulties with control, hitting one batter and allowing two home runs on 40 pitches, while Bowers took over for 3 2/3 innings, conceding six hits and five earned runs, ultimately recording the loss.

In the second game, Midwestern State managed only three hits, while Angelo State secured the victory with four runs across in the first three innings. The scoring began early for the home team, with Angelo State taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning through RBI singles from Ashleigh Dendas and Abby Brand. The score held at 2-0 until the third inning, when No. 13 ASU extended its lead. A hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded allowed Kylie Forney to score, and a sacrifice fly by Brand brought in Zoey Sifuentes, moving the score to 4-0 by the end of the third inning.

Despite efforts from MSU, including hits by Erikha Ibarra-Subia and Mia Sanchez, the team was unable to generate runs. The game concluded with a final score of 4-0 in favor of Angelo State.

Rios made an impact with two hits, while Acosta contributed both a hit and caught a base runner stealing. Sierra pitched three innings, allowing only one hit and striking out two batters, but issued two walks and one wild pitch. Bowers, who started in the circle, pitched two innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs, while Florence entered as a reliever and pitched for just 1/3 of an inning, issuing three walks and allowing two earned runs. Salazar closed the game by pitching 2/3 of an inning, with six of her nine pitches being strikes, and she allowed no hits or runs.

In their next game, the Mustangs will face Sul Ross State on Friday, May 1 at 2 p.m. CT at Mustangs Park.
