ODESSA, Texas — Midwestern State was shut out in both games of a doubleheader at UT Permian Basin on Friday afternoon, suffering defeats of 8–0 and 7–0.
In the first game, Midwestern State (6-38, 4-30) managed just one hit, while UT Permian Basin (18-25, 9-23 ) collected 11 hits and three doubles, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings.
The home team took an early lead, capitalizing on a throwing error and a single to score three runs, ending the first inning with a 3–0 advantage.
The second inning saw UT Permian Basin extend its lead with another three runs, following a pair of singles and an error, bringing the score to 6–0.
Midwestern State held the Falcons scoreless in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, but the home team added two runs in the sixth inning, sealing the game at 8–0.
Sydnie Rios made an impact at the plate, recording the lone hit for Midwestern State.
Audrey Sierra pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs and one walk.
Kayleigh Bowers struck out one batter and did not allow an earned run in her 1 2/3 innings pitched.
In the second game, Midwestern State managed five hits but was unable to score.
The Falcons capitalized on a five-run third inning to secure a 7-0 victory. The inning began with Mia Serrato's single to left field, followed by Keri Sanford's triple that scored Serrato. Carlee Quintero's single brought in Sanford, and further hits from Amathyst Gonzalez and Kelsey Valo, with Valo's double driving in two more runs, put UT Permian Basin ahead 5-0.
In the fifth inning, the Falcons extended their lead with Alivia Robinson scoring on Kaylee Moses' double. The sixth inning saw UT Permian Basin add another run, with Sanford scoring on a wild pitch, finalizing the score at 7-0.
Sydnie Rios contributed with a double and a walk.
Audrey Sierra pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run while striking out one and walking two.
Marisela Landa reached base twice, recording a hit and being hit by a pitch.
Kaylin Salazar started the game, pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up five earned runs on seven hits, while
Shyanne Florence contributed one inning of relief, surrendering one earned run on one hit with one strikeout and one walk.
Looking ahead, the Mustangs face No. 13-ranked Angelo State on Sunday at Mayer Field. The doubleheader gets underway at 1 p.m.
