EDMOND, Okla. — Midwestern State (3-14, 1-8) faced No. 13 Oklahoma Christian (16-3, 8-1) in a doubleheader at the Lawson Softball Complex, falling 8-0 in the first game and 10-2 in the second.
In the first game, Midwestern State managed three hits but was unable to score, while Oklahoma Christian capitalized on nine hits, including two doubles and two triples. The game began with
Erikha Ibarra-Subia singling through the left side, but MSU left two runners on base. Oklahoma Christian opened the scoring with Kiley Brewster's single, leading 1-0 by the end of the first inning.
The second inning saw Oklahoma Christian extend its lead to 3-0 with a sacrifice bunt by Sydnee Seat and a wild pitch. The third inning included a series of hits and a sacrifice fly, allowing Oklahoma Christian to add four more runs, highlighted by Marti Yeager's triple. By the end of the third, the score was 7-0, and the Eagles added their final run in the fourth with another triple from Brewster. Despite a single by
Sydnie Rios in the fifth, MSU was unable to score, concluding the game with an 8-0 loss.
Tatum Waller recorded one hit in two at-bats, while Ibarra-Subia also contributed with one hit from three plate appearances.
Kayleigh Bowers pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs on six hits, while
Audrey Sierra pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up one earned run on three hits.
In the second game, Midwestern State opened strong, scoring two runs in the first inning. Ibarra-Subia's single to shallow right field was followed by a single from
Hayeli Acosta, and
Tatum Waller loaded the bases.
Chipper Mayorga's sacrifice fly brought Ibarra-Subia home, followed by
Marisela Landa's sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Acosta to score, ending the inning with MSU leading 2-0.
However, the third inning saw Oklahoma Christian take control, scoring six runs, including a two-run groundout by Danae Lopez and a triple from Madi Drummond, to lead 6-2. The Eagles extended their lead in the fourth with another run due to a hit by pitch that allowed Maci George to score. Oklahoma Christian sealed the victory in the fifth inning, scoring three more runs, including a two-RBI single from Lopez, ending the game at 10-2.
Tatum Waller recorded a hit and drew a walk, scoring a run, while Ibarra-Subia added a hit and was hit by a pitch. Mayorga and Landa each contributed with sacrifice flies.
Shyanne Florence pitched 1 1/3 innings in the second game, allowing four earned runs, while
Isabela Cornell started and pitched 2 2/3 innings, yielding six earned runs.
Looking ahead, MSU will face St. Mary's on Friday, March 6, at 3 p.m. CT in San Antonio, Texas.
