TYLER, Texas – No. 12-ranked Midwestern State enjoyed a 5-2 victory over No. 25-ranked Auburn Montgomery in a dual-match on Saturday afternoon.
Midwestern State (3-2) avoid a three-dual losing streak, and AUM (3-4) of the Gulf South Conference dropped to 1-1 against Lone Star Conference opponents after defeating Cameron on Friday, 4-1.
Camila Garcia helped Midwestern State take a 2-0 lead over the Warhawks.
The sophomore teamed up with freshman
Jasmine Crain to win No. 2 doubles, 6-1, over Mercedes Garcia Cid and Allison Blanco, and the Mustangs would claim the doubles point when Sofia Neri and Ana Clara Campigotto retired at No. 3 doubles trailing
Hattie Berend and
Alessia Dolce, 4-3.
Garcia cruised to 6-3, 6-3 victory over Nagisa Yonezawa at No. 3 singles to remain undefeated this season.
Blanco edged Crain in a close singles match, 7-6 (5), 6-3, and the win at No. 4 singles put the Warhawks on the board.
Selin Sepken improved to 5-0 at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs, but the fifth-year senior from Turkey needed three sets to put away Melissa Yakup Pour, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Emilia Gyorgy won a tightly contested match with Garcia Cid, 6-7 (1), 6-3, 7-5. Gyorgy played her second consecutive three-set match at No. 2 singles.
The Mustangs clinched the dual-match victory when
Alessia Dolce dispatched Campigotto at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Dolce improved to 3-2 with the victory.
Midwestern State wraps up the LSC/GSC crossover with a dual match against No. 2-ranked West Florida on Sunday. West Florida swept Cameron on Saturday, 7-0.
