WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State wraps up the regular season this week with a pair of home games as Sul Ross State and Western New Mexico visit D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Lobos and Mustangs tangle on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and WNMU visits for Senior Day on Saturday with tipoff at 1 p.m.
Midwestern State (7-17, 4-14) is 4-7 at home this season and won its last two games under the dome, defeating Texas A&M International and Texas A&M Kingsville earlier this month.
The Mustangs are coming off an 86-77 loss at Angelo State on Saturday as the Rambelles hit 13-of-33 shots from 3-point range in a game that featured eight ties and five lead changes. Four players scored in double figures for MSU, led by Da'Lonna Choice with 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field.
Kerbie Cash posted her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Cash has five other games where she was a rebound shy of a double-double.
Ta'Leeyah Glynn, who also had 13 points, scored double figures for the 11th time this season, while Carisa Cortez finished with 12 points and four assists.
Veonce Powell scored double figures in eight of her last nine games, including 13 points in an 83-66 loss at UT Permian Basin last Thursday, but the senior from Miami did not play against the Rambelles on Saturday.
Cash is the leading scorer for MSU and fourth in the Lone Star Conference with 16.3 points per game. She is third in the league and leading the team with 7.9 rebounds per game.
Midwestern State is second in the league with 15 offensive rebounds per contest and is pulling down 37.8 total rebounds per game, which is sixth most in the LSC.
Macie Upshaw and Cash are both grabbing more than 2.5 offensive rebounds per outing and are among the top 10 in the LSC.
Upshaw is second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game, and she is averaging nearly a block per game. The freshman from Round Rock, Texas, has the ninth-most blocks in the LSC with 18. Midwestern State is sixth in the league with 2.7 blocks per game.
The Mustangs are second in the conference and 31st among NCAA Division II programs with 11.5 steals per game. Cash leads the team and is third in the league with 2.2 steals per game. The Mustangs are forcing 21 turnovers per game, which is third best in the Lone Star Conference.
Cash and Ta'Leeyah Glynn are leading the team in steals. Cash swipes the ball from the opposition 2.2 times per game, and Glynn is averaging 1.9 steals.
Midwestern State is attempting the third-most free throws in the conference with 22.5 per game, which is 16th-most in the country. MSU is 15th in the nation with 15.9 free throws made per outing, which is second in the LSC. The Mustangs are fifth in the conference with a 70.6 percent conversion rate from the foul line.
Cash is 113 of 155 from the free-throw line (.729), sitting third in the LSC in both attempts and free throws made. The sophomore from Wiley, Texas, has the 10th-best free-throw percentage in the conference.
Midwestern State is averaging 66 points per game, while opponents are scoring 69.4 points per outing.
SUL ROSS STATE (3-21, 2-16)
Midwestern State won all five previous encounters with Sul Ross State, including an 88-70 victory last season at Pete Gallego Center in Alpine, Texas. Carissa Cortez scored 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range.
The Lobos have lost their four previous visits to D.L. Ligon Coliseum, including an 80-60 setback in January of 2025 as Cash finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs, who shot 48.4 percent from the field and outrebounded the Lobos, 45-32.
Sul Ross State has a six-game losing streak with its last victory coming on Jan. 31 against Texas A&M-Kingsville, 62-58.
Sophiya Bustillos is the leading scorer for the Lobos with 12.4 points per game, while Leslie Mojica is adding 11.5 points per contest. Victoria Aguayo is scoring 10.4 points per game.
Aguayo is pulling down eight rebounds a game to lead the Lobos, who average 35.5 boards per contest, including 12.9 offensive rebounds per game.
Sul Ross State is the third-lowest scoring team in the LSC with 55.8 points per game, and the Lobos are conceding 72.9 points a night.
WESTERN NEW MEXICO (1-23, 1-17)
Midwestern State is 15-6 in its all-time series with Western New Mexico and had a three-game winning streak in the series snapped last season with a 52-50 loss in Silver City, New Mexico. MSU is 8-2 when hosting the Western Mustangs, who were defeated at D.L. Ligon Coliseum last season, 82-44.
Western New Mexico is visiting Lubbock Christian on Thursday night before closing out the season in Wichita Falls. The Western Mustangs are 1-10 on the road this season with their only road victory coming at Sul Ross on Feb. 12, holding the Lobos to five points in the fourth quarter on their way to a 49-45 triumph, ending a 21-game losing streak.
Jordan Sapien is the leading scorer for WNMU with 13.5 points per game, and Teeya Gordon is scoring 11.1 points per outing for the Western Mustangs, who average 53.5 points per game and are the lowest scoring team in the LSC.
Opponents are scoring 77.3 points per game against WNMU and outrebounding the Western Mustangs, 41-33.
Gordon is the leading rebounder for WNMU with 6.1 boards per game, and Naomi Kimble grabs 5.4 rebounds per game.
Sapien leads the team with 3.3 assists per game for the Western Mustangs, who shoot 33 percent from the field and just 26.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Western New Mexico is averaging 19.8 turnovers per game, which is third most in the conference.
