WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State posted a routine 6-1 victory over Collin College on Friday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.
Matthew Earle and
Germano Setti set the tone for the Mustangs with a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles, and Midwestern State went on to sweep doubles for the first point of the day.
Cesar Loeches Llamas clinched the dual-match victory with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Santiago Martinez at No. 3 singles. Loeches Llamas and
Jose Marquez clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 pasting of Harry Stokes and Martinez at No. 3 doubles.
Earle enjoyed a dominant performance, dropping just one game in singles and doubles combined. Earle defeated Deniz Zeki at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Setti, ranked No. 7, breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Luis Andre Oliva at No. 1 singles after not playing in the dual-match against Seward County on Wednesday in the home opener.
Tomas Leguizamon earned a straight-set win over Maake Boitshepo at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 7-5.
Bruno Sanchez started his day by teaming up with
Juan David Duque for a 6-3 win over Niko Nadali and Phillipe Dau at No. 1 doubles and then prevailed over Nadali at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-2.
Dau earned the only point for the Cougars with a 6-4, 6-3 win over
Rowan Olsen at No. 6 singles.
Midwestern State travels to Nebraska Kearney next week to play the Lopers on Friday at Ernest Grundy Tennis Center and will also square off with Rockhurst in Kearney on Feb. 21.
