WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State won four of its last seven games and is looking to maintain some positive momentum as it hosts Texas A&M International at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Thursday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Four players scored in double figures, led by Jordan Reed's 18 points, as the Mustangs earned their second road win of the year with a 69-63 triumph at UT Tyler on Monday night.
Davyon Butler was 5 of 8 from the field and finished with 15 points. Kadon Jackson posted his first double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jonathan Jackson was 3 of 3 from 3-point range and scored 11 points in the victory.
Midwestern State (8-13, 6-8) is 6-3 at home this season and won its last two games under the dome.
The Mustangs are scoring 74.3 points per game but allowing their opponents to score 78.6 points per contest. The Mustangs are third in the league with 13.7 fast-break points per game. MSU is shooting 44 percent from the field, and its opponents are shooting 44.7 percent.
The Mustangs are third in the Lone Star Conference and 22nd among NCAA Division II schools with 32.1 points per game from the bench.
Orlando Horton Jr. is one of three players averaging double figures for the Mustangs with 12 points per game. Horton has missed the last three games for the Mustangs with a lower leg injury and is considered day-to-day. McClennahan sat out the game against UT Tyler and is questionable entering the game on Thursday night.
TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL (7-15, 4-10)
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with Texas A&M International, 6-2, and has won all four encounters at D.L. Ligon Coliseum, including a 70-56 triumph two years ago. Last year, the Mustangs won at TAMIU, 85-72, as Jonathan Jackson hit 4-of-8 shots from 3-point range and finished with 12 points.
The Dustdevils are mired in a five-game losing streak following an 89-69 loss to St. Edward's in Laredo, Texas, on Saturday afternoon.
Texas A&M International was outscored in the paint, 46-22, and shot 38.2 percent from the field against the Hilltoppers, who led 51-30 at halftime after holding the Dustdevils to 7-of-25 shooting in the first 20 minutes of the game. Jaymier Patton and Caylen Goff Brown both scored 17 points, and Aaron Perez added 14 points in the loss for TAMIU.
Texas A&M International is one of the lower scoring teams in NCAA Division II with 67.8 points per game and is shooting 42.1 percent from the field. TAMIU opponents are pouring in 74.2 points a contest while shooting 47 percent from the field.
