Mustangs sending two teams to Hrnciar Invitational

DUNCAN, Okla. - - Midwestern State has two teams competing and is one of 13 schools in the field for The Hrnciar at the The Territory Golf and Country Club. The 54-hole event tees off Monday morning.

Ryan Griff, Carter Ray, Collin Moody, Jaxon Donaldson, and Anniston McIlwain are in the lineup for the Mustangs' 'A' Team, and the 'B' Team features Bryce Hoech, Chase Kisver, Hank Germany, Nathan Nelson and Ben Jones.

The host school, Cameron, is fielding two squads in the tournament, which includes teams from Garden City Community College, Colorado School of Mines, Weatherford College, Fort Lewis, Blinn College, Pittsburg State and Texas A&M-Texarkana. Lubbock Chrisitan, Dallas Baptist, UT Permian Basin and St. Mary's are the other schools from the Lone Star Conference in the field.

Midwestern State tied with Cameron for third place in The Dewseeper Invitational at 2-over 866. The Mustangs shot 6-over 294 in the final round and finished six strokes behind the winners from Cal State-San Bernadino. Midwestern State held the 36-hole lead by one stroke in its first event of the fall last month.

McIlwain finished in a tie for third place on the individual leaderboard at 5-under 211. Donaldson finished in a six-way tie for 16th place alongside Moody.

Midwestern State competed in The Hrnciar Invitational two years ago and finished seventh in a field of 12 teams. Griff, Germany, Hoech and Nelson were all in the field for the 2024 tournament. Germany finished at 9-over 225 and finished in 14th place. Griff tied for 43rd place at 17-over 233. Hoech placed 48th at 19-over 235. Nelson finished 64th after shooting 26-over 242.

The Territory opened in 2003 and was designed by Randy Heckenkemper, a native of Oklahoma that participated in the design of Troon Country Club and TPC Scottsdale in Arizona. He also designed Forest Ridge Golf Club in Oklahoma and Pinnacle Country Club in Arkansas. The Territory features Bermuda grass fairways and Bentgrass greens. The course is set on a rolling landscape with rocky outcrops, the meandering Stagestand Creek and numerous ponds.

The Mustangs will be competing in the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invite in Canyon, Texas, next week.
