Midwestern State plays 1-1 draw with Oklahoma Christian at Stang Park

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State extended its unbeaten streak to 23 games but settled for a 1-1 draw with Oklahoma Christian on a soggy Saturday night at Stang Park. The Mustangs held a 19-7 shot advantage and generated 13 of their attempts in the second half.

Alan Rivera put MSU in front at 42:59, converting a penalty kick after Lawrence Doe was taken down in the box. Earlier, Jake Morris kept OC off the board with a save on Kenzo Shabazz-Edwards' shot in the 10th minute, and the Mustangs began to build pressure with back-to-back corners at 21:42 and 22:09. Juan David Valencia Vacca added a shot at 24:46, and the Maroon & Gold continued to generate chances later in the half, including a Jose Ortiz shot saved at 39:34, another Ortiz attempt at 41:24 and a Doe shot wide at 41:35. The Rivera penalty was the only goal of the half, sending MSU into halftime ahead 1-0.

After OC's Luis Alvis scored at 73:13 to tie the match 1-1, the Mustangs pushed through the closing stretch with seven shots from 76:44 to 88:32. Earlier in the half, with MSU ahead 1-0, Rivera forced a save 61 seconds after the restart, and the Maroon & Gold added three corner kicks along with attempts from Ortiz, Rivera and Christian Castaneda by the 64th minute. The Eagles created chances during that span, but Morris saved Kenzo Shabazz-Edwards' shot at 57:53 and later stopped Frederico Palacios in the 84th minute. MSU continued to search after the equalizer, with Dante Caffaro saving shots from Parker Plaxco, Davis Mays and Ethan Krchnak, but the match finished tied 1-1.
