Three Mustangs score goals, MSU shuts out third straight opponent with 3-0 win at UT Tyler

TYLER, Texas – Juan David Valencia Vacca scored in the 41st minute, and Midwestern State went on to defeat UT Tyler at Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex on Wednesday night, 3-0. Lawrence Doe, Jr. and Liam Kervick added second half goals for the Mustangs, who extended their unbeaten streak to 22 games.

Midwestern State (9-0-2, 3-0-0) has won six straight games since playing to back-to-back draws at UCCS and MSU Denver. The Stangs improved to 2-0-2 on the road this season, and they are 10-0-0 in the all-time series with the Patriots.

UT Tyler (2-3-4, 0-2-1) was outshot in the first half 11-0. The Mustangs first goal came on their eighth shot of the half and was set up by Cristopher Guevara. Valencia Vacca scored his third goal of the year, and it was the first game-winning goal as a Mustang for the junior from Medellin, Colombia. Guevara registered his first assist of the season.

The Stangs continued to dominate in the second half, outshooting the Patriots 11-4 over the final 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Jake Morris made three saves for his third straight shutout, and the junior from Parker, Colorado, turned in his fifth clean sheet of the season. Midwestern State has only conceded one goal in its last five games.

Doe maneuvered in tight quarters inside the box, and scored his third goal of the season with a right-footed strike into the top right part of the goal in the 77th minute. A little more than one minute later, Liam Kervick sealed the Patriots fate with his second goal of the season, and his first since a season-opening 5-0 win over Cal State East Bay.

Midwestern State has a plus-24 goal differential this season and returns home on Saturday night to face Oklahoma Christian. Kickoff at Stang Park is scheduled for 7 p.m.
