WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (4-9, 2-4 ) fell to Lubbock Christian University (15-2, 6-1 ) 73-68 in a close conference matchup at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Thursday night. Despite a strong scoring 38 points in the paint, the Mustangs could not overcome Lubbock Christian's 10 three-pointers.
The game commenced with Lubbock Christian taking an early 3-0 lead after a three-pointer by Amondo Miller Jr. at the 19:11 mark. MSU quickly responded as
Jonathan Jackson and
Jordan Reed combined for a 4-0 run, momentarily giving their team the lead. However, Lubbock Christian's Kendall Dow and Leo Nordberg each contributed pivotal three-pointers, helping their team to regain control. Despite efforts by MSU's
Davyon Butler, who scored six points in the half, Lubbock Christian closed the half on a strong note with Alex Anamekwe and Miller Jr. adding to a 10-point advantage, ending the half ahead 38-28.
In a tightly contested second half, Lubbock Christian maintained their lead over the Mustangs, securing a 73-68 victory. Charles McClennahan Jr. led a scoring effort for MSU, contributing with early baskets, including a tip-in at 17:14. Lubbock Christian's Kendall Dow made crucial free throws in the final minute to keep the hosts at bay. Despite a late push, including a fast break layup by Orlando Horton Jr. at the 35-second mark, MSU could not close the gap.
