Greyhounds race past Mustangs, 84-60

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (4-10, 2-5 Lone Star) fell to Eastern New Mexico (13-3, 6-2 Lone Star) 84-60 on Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Midwestern State struggled with turnovers, committing 18, while Eastern New Mexico capitalized with 25 points off those turnovers.

Midwestern State struggled early as Eastern New Mexico took control, opening the game with a 9-0 run, including a fast-break layup by Mo Austin at the 17:21 mark. The Greyhounds maintained their dominance throughout the first half, highlighted by a strong performance in the paint, scoring 28 points. Jose Murillo led the visitors with key plays, including a tip-in at 2:08 and a dunk assisted by him at 1:16. Despite a late jumper from Vojin Mastilovic with three seconds remaining, the Mustangs trailed 41-20 at the end of the half.

Eastern New Mexico maintained control in the second half, extending their lead with a series of quick baskets. Austin was instrumental, securing two layups in the opening minutes, including a fast-break score at 19:32. Cooper Jackson contributed with a layup and a free throw during this stretch, pushing the score to 56-28 by the 15:22 mark. MSU found brief momentum through Jonathan Jackson, who hit two 3-pointers, including one at 11:36, but ENMU's consistent scoring kept them ahead. The half ended with Eastern New Mexico outscoring the Maroon & Gold 43-40, sealing their advantage.

Looking ahead, MSU will host West Texas A&M at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas, on Saturday, Jan. 17. The game is set for 3 p.m.
