Midwestern State hosts No. 24-ranked Eastern New Mexico

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State hopes to end a six-game slide as it hosts No. 24-ranked Eastern New Mexico on Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
 
Midwestern State (4-9, 2-4) faces its fourth straight ranked opponent after falling to No. 6-ranked Lubbock Christian 73-68 in the opening game of its three-game homestand, and the Mustangs are 4-2 at home this season.
 
Orlando Horton, Jr. was the leading scorer for MSU with 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, and the junior guard from Houston hit all eight of his free throws in the loss to the Chaparrals last week. Charles McClennahan, Jr. added 12 points for the Mustangs, who trailed 38-28 at halftime.
 
Midwestern State is scoring 77.8 points per game and shooting nearly 45 percent from the field, but opponents are scoring 80.9 points per game and shooting 45.6 percent from the field.
 
The Mustangs feature a balanced scoring attack with five players averaging more than 10 points per game, and McClennahan is the top scorer in Maroon & Gold with 11.5 points per game, and Horton is pouring in 10.7 points per contest. Terrance Ramirez, Davyon Butler and Jonathan Jackson are all scoring more than 10 points per game.
 
Jackson is third in the league with nearly 2.5 3-pointers per game and is shooting 40.5 percent from beyond the arc.
 
The Mustangs are the fifth-leading rebounding team in the LSC with 37.5 boards per game, and MSU is sixth in the league with 11.6 offensive rebounds per game.
 
McClennahan is pulling down a team-leading 5.9 rebounds per game, including 2.4 offensive rebounds per contest.
 
Horton is leading the Mustangs with 2.8 assists per game, and Ramirez is right behind him with 2.7 helpers per outing.
 
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with Eastern New Mexico, 38-22, but lost four of the last five meetings, including a 70-69 loss at home last season. The Mustangs are 19-9 when hosting ENMU, and their last win in the series came under the dome in February of 2024, when Midwestern State routed ENMU, 93-54.
 
Eastern New Mexico (12-3, 5-2) is coming off back-to-back losses St. Mary's and St. Edward's in Portales, New Mexico.
 
Austin Abrams led four players in double figures with 18 points, while Cooper Jackson pitched in 13 points for the Greyhounds, who matched a season-high with nine 3 pointers in the 84-81 loss to St. Edward's and outscored the Hilltoppers in transition, 21-8.
 
Mo Austin, Jose Murillo and Mika Tangermann each scored 11 points in the loss.
 
Murillo and Austin are the leading scorers for ENMU this season with 15.8 and 15.7 points per game respectively. Murillo is also the second-leading rebounder in the LSC and 24th in the nation with 9.1 boards per game.
The Greyhounds are posting 81.3 points per game, which is fourth best in the LSC, and opponents are scoring just 70.1 points per contest and are being held to 41.1 percent shooting from the field, which is the third-best field goal percentage defense in the league.
 
ENMU boasts the second-best field-goal percentage in the conference, shooting 49 percent from the field, including 32.5 percent from beyond the arc.
 
The Greyhounds lead the league and are ninth in the nation with 18.9 fastbreak points per game.
The ENMU defense is forcing 12.7 turnovers per game and is second in the LSC with 10.2 steals per game, which is 21st-most among NCAA Division II programs.
 
Jackson leads the conference with 45 steals, which is third most in the nation. The senior from Lawrence, Kansas, is averaging three steals per game, which leads the conference and is fifth most in the nation. Mo Austin has 39 total steals and 2.6 per game, which is third in the LSC and 20th in NCAA Division II.
 
The Greyhounds are third in the league with a plus-5.7 rebounding margin, pulling down 38.5 rebounds per game, which is second most in the LSC.
 
Murillo is pulling down the 12th-most offensive rebounds in NCAA Division II and leads the LSC with 3.9 offensive rebounds per game.
 
Midwestern State will face another ranked foe on Saturday afternoon, when No. 16 West Texas A&M visits D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
