BETHANY, Okla. — Midwestern State (0-0-1) and Southern Nazarene (0-0-1) played to a 2-2 draw Thursday evening at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.
Midwestern State took an early lead in the 10th minute with a goal from
Marlene Myrvold, assisted by
Morgan Countryman.
Six minutes later,
Madison Brinkley extended the lead to 2-0 with a successful penalty kick.
The Crimson Storm attempted to respond, with Ella Adams and Bella Morgas both launching shots, although neither found the back of the net.
Midwestern State maintained their advantage through the first half, despite several fouls and a yellow card issued to
Briana Gomez.
The second half began with Midwestern State applying pressure early, highlighted by
Abbey Lee's shot at the 48:26 mark, which was saved by SNU's Gianna Bonnett.
Despite multiple corner kicks and shots on goal, Midwestern State was unable to extend their lead.
SNU capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity with Danika Womack scoring in the 72nd minute, even though her initial attempt was stopped by
Lauren Short. SNU continued their momentum with Millie Butler equalizing in the 82nd minute, concluding the match with a 2-2 draw after several saved efforts from both sides.
Lauren Short posted five saves in goal, contributing significantly to the team's defensive efforts. Myrvold scored on her only shot. Brinkley added another goal, successfully converting a penalty shot. Countryman assisted on a goal for the Mustangs.
Danika Womack and Millie Butler each contributed a goal for the Crimson Storm. Womack led the team with three shots on goal, while Butler scored from her only shot. Morgas added pressure up front with three shots, one of which was on target. Bonnett, in goal, recorded four saves, facing 13 shots and allowing two goals.
The Mustangs travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, for a match with Ouachita Baptist on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for at 2 pm at Kluck Field.
