Women's Soccer Settles For a Draw With (RV) Texas Woman's, 2-2

TWU had won their opening seven matches of the season before tonights draw.

DENTON, Texas — Midwestern State (2-1-4, 2-0-2) and (RV) Texas Woman's (7-0-1, 3-0-1) played to a 2-2 draw at Pioneer Soccer Park on Saturday evening. The Mustangs scored twice in the first half, while TWU responded with two second-half goals.

Midwestern St. struck first in the 13th minute when Nyxalee Munoz found the back of the net, giving them a 1-0 lead over Texas Woman's. Munoz traveled box-to-box, evading a handful of defenders before her shot slipped through the hands of TWU keeper Amanda Farris. Despite several attempts from the Pioneers, including shots by Giselle Gutierrez and Ailyn Oliveros, they were unable to capitalize. MSU extended their lead with a team goal in the 31st minute, with Munoz at the center, concluding the half at 2-0. Defensive plays from both sides and a series of corner kicks did not alter the scoreline, leaving the Maroon & Gold with a two-goal advantage at halftime.

Texas Woman's rallied in the second half to level the score against Midwestern State, ending the match in a 2-2 draw. The home team initiated their comeback with a goal from Alyssa Striker in the 68th minute, narrowing the deficit. Later, Gutierrez equalized in the 82nd minute, assisted by Mia Thaxton and Bri Luna. MSU faced persistent pressure, with goalkeeper Tanner Sorenson making key saves, including stops against Oliveros and Striker. The match concluded after a tense period of play, with both teams unable to break the deadlock in the final minutes.

Munoz scored one goal on her single shot, contributing significantly to the Mustangs' offensive efforts. Madison Brinkley registered one shot on goal, applying pressure to the opposing defense. Sorenson, in goal, made three saves over the course of the match, with all saves coming in the second half. The team collectively added a goal, showcasing their ability to capitalize on opportunities.

Gutierrez scored the tying goal for the Pioneers, adding to her season tally with three shots, one of which was on target. Striker matched Gutierrez's goal count with one of her own, having both of her shots on goal contribute to the offensive effort. Oliveros led the team with four total shots, two of which challenged the goalkeeper. Thaxton and Luna provided assists, each aiding in a goal-scoring opportunity, while Amanda Farris made one save in goal, facing six shots and allowing two goals over 90 minutes.

The next challenge for the Mustangs takes them on the road to face Oklahoma Christian. The match is set for October 1 at 7 p.m. at Eagle Soccer Field.
