Men's Soccer Shuts Out (RV) Western Oregon, 2-0

The Mustangs scored in each half, while keeping their second clean sheet of the season.

FRISCO, Texas — Midwestern St. (4-1-3, 0-0-0) secured a 2-0 victory against (RV) Western Ore. (3-2-2, 0-0-0) on Saturday at the neutral Toyota Soccer Complex. The match featured a standout performance from the Midwestern St. goalkeeper, who recorded six saves to ensure a shutout.
 
Midwestern St. took an early lead in the first half with Alan Rivera scoring in the fifth minute following a yellow card on Western Ore.'s Marcus Vazquez. Despite multiple attempts, Western Ore. was unable to capitalize on their opportunities, as Jake Morris recorded key saves against shots by Junior Ochoa and Archie Dhima. The Mustangs maintained a 1-0 advantage into the break, supported by a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
 
In the second half, the Maroon & Gold capitalized on their offensive pressure to extend their lead with a goal by Liam Kervick in the 53rd minute, assisted by Parker Plaxco. This goal came amid a flurry of activity, including three corner kicks and multiple shot attempts by MSU, which kept the momentum in their favor. Defensively, MSU's goalkeeper Morris was pivotal, recording three saves to maintain the shutout against the Wolves, who struggled to convert any of their opportunities. At the end of the half, Midwestern St. held a 2-0 advantage.
 
Morris recorded six saves in goal, contributing to a shutout performance for MSU. Kervick tallied one goal and led the team with two shots on goal. Plaxco provided an assist to help the team's offensive efforts. Rivera scored a crucial game-winning goal, converting both of his shots on goal.
 
Justin Stewart played a pivotal role for the Wolves with two saves, facing 10 shots and allowing two goals over 90 minutes. Yahir Ocampo Navarro led the team with two shots, with one on goal, showcasing his offensive contribution from the midfield. Meanwhile, Mauricio Medina, Vazquez, and Ochoa each managed to put one shot on goal, contributing to the team's offensive efforts.

Looking ahead, the Mustangs will begin conference play as they will host (RV) St. Edward's at Stang Park in Wichita Falls, Texas. The match is set for Wednesday, October 1 at 7 p.m.
