BETHANY, Okla. — Midwestern State (2-1-3, 0-0-0) and Southern Nazarene (2-2-1, 0-0-0) ended in a 2-2 draw at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex on Saturday night, with both teams netting two goals in the second half.
The first half began with a defensive battle, highlighted early by key saves from goalkeeper
Daniel Robles. Midwestern State seized momentum late in the half, as
Dereck Espinal capitalized on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute to secure a 1-0 lead. The visitors maintained pressure with multiple corner kicks, underscoring their attacking intent as the half concluded.
The second half commenced with the Mustangs extending their lead when
Jaime Villagomez scored in the 52nd minute, assisted by
Ethan Krchnak, to make it 2-0. The Crimson Storm fought back, narrowing the gap with a goal by Tiago Moreira in the 78th minute and then equalizing in the 85th minute through Lucas Beja. Despite several attempts from
Cooper Tea and Espinal, the Maroon & Gold were unable to regain the lead, resulting in a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation.
The next challenge for MSU sees them traveling to Frisco, Texas, where they will face Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 25. The match will take place at Toyota Soccer Center, with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m.
