WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Northeastern State (2-1-1, 0-0-0) secured a 1-0 victory over Midwestern State (1-1-2, 0-0-0) at Stang Park on Saturday, with the lone goal coming in the first half.
The first half began with a flurry of activity, as
Cristopher Guevara launched an early shot for Midwestern State in the 3rd minute that went wide left. Northeastern State capitalized on their opportunities, scoring the half's only goal in the 15th minute through Eduardo Matos. Despite several attempts and a series of offside calls against the Mustangs, the home team was unable to equalize before the break, trailing 1-0.
The second half began with MSU pressing forward, highlighted by
Cooper Tea's early shot that went out left at 47:59. Despite the offensive pressure, including multiple corner kicks and attempts on goal, such as
Sune Espevoll's shot saved at 52:17, the team was unable to break through Northeastern State's defense.
Daniel Robles made crucial saves, including one at 72:18, helping to keep the game within reach as the match ended with Northeastern State scoring a 1-0 victory.
Midwestern State is 33-7-2 in the all-time series, and the RiverHawks earned just their fourth win in 20 visits to Stang Park.
