Mustangs host Northeastern State for Saturday night match at Stang Park

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State continues its three-match homestand on Saturday evening as Northeastern State (Okla.) visits the Mustangs, who rallied to tie Newman, 3-3, in the home opener at Stang Park on Thursday night. Kickoff against the RiverHawks is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Midwestern State (1-0-2) has won its last three meetings with Northeastern State (1-1-1), including a 6-2 triumph in their last encounter at Stang Park in 2021. MSU leads the all-time series 33-6-2 and is 14-3-2 when hosting the RiverHawks. Midwestern State has outscored the Northeastern State in Wichita Falls, 63-17, and posted nine shutouts in those 19 meetings.

Northeastern State's last win in the series was at Stang Park in 2016 as the RiverHawks spoiled the Mustangs' home opener with 1-0 victory despite being outshot 22-8. Trevor Reed scored the goal in the 88th minute on a header with assist from Joseph Garcia.

Midwestern State hosted Newman in its 2025 home opener on Thursday night and was able to overcome a 3-0 deficit to earn a draw against the upstart Jets. Parker Plaxco, Liam Pritchard and Cooper Tea scored goals for the Mustangs, who outshot Newman 18-7.

Since the start of the 2023 season, Midwestern State is 18-2-3 at home. The Mustangs had not conceded three goals in a home match since suffering a 4-3 loss to West Texas A&M in September of 2021.

Plaxco is the goal-scoring leader for MSU with two, and he leads the team with five points. Pritchard and Davis Mays each have a goal and an assist. Tea converted the Mustangs' first penalty kick of the campaign to pull even with Newman in the 85th minute on Thursday night.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Morris has played the first 270 minutes of the season for the Mustangs and has a 1.33 goals-against average, allowing four goals with four saves in three matches.

Northeastern State is coming off its first win of the season on Thursday night, defeating Lubbock Christian at LCU Track & Soccer Complex, 1-0, as sophomore forward Carter Adams scored in the 56th minute.  Junior goalkeeper Cameron McColloch made six saves to record the first clean sheet of his career.

Adams has scored twice this season, including the equalizer in the 80th minute of a 1-1 draw with Drury on opening night in Springfield, Missouri.

Martin Martinez has a goal and an assist for Northeastern State, which has scored all three of its goals this season in the second half of matches. Martinez scored in the 82nd minute of a 3-1 loss at Lincoln in Jefferson City, Missouri, last Saturday.

McColloch is 1-0-1 with a 0.42 GAA and an .875 saver percentage. Jaron Nobel was the starting goalkeeper in the loss to Lincoln, and he has a 4.95 GAA with a .625 save percentage.

Midwestern State hosts St. Mary's in a non-conference match on Wednesday night at Stang Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
