WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (1-0-2, 0-0-0) and Newman (2-1-1, 0-0-0) played to a 3-3 draw on Thursday evening at Stang Park, with Midwestern State scoring two second-half goals to secure the tie.
The first half began with Midwestern State conceding an early goal to Newman at the 5:59 mark, with Gregoire Henri scoring. Newman's offensive pressure continued, extending their lead to 2-0 with a goal by Yohsuke Ono in the 14th minute and a third goal by Daiki Okada in the 18th minute. Midwestern St. responded in the 28th minute when
Parker Plaxco scored with an assist from
Davis Mays, narrowing the deficit to 3-1. Despite multiple shot attempts and corner kicks, the Maroon & Gold ended the half trailing by two goals.
The second half saw the Mustangs rally to overturn a deficit. In the 68th minute,
Liam Pritchard capitalized on an assist from Plaxco to narrow the scoreline to 3-2. The home team continued to press, and in the 85th minute,
Cooper Tea successfully converted a penalty kick to equalize the match at 3-3. Despite numerous attempts and a disciplined defensive effort, the matchconcluded with both teams locked in a draw.
Midwestern State returns to Stang Park to face Northeastern State (Okla.) on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.
