RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Midwestern State did the work it needed to do to claw itself into contention in the second round of the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional Thursday afternoon at the Victoria Club.

The Mustangs combined to go 11-under par as a team over the final five holes to move into sixth place. Overall, MSU fired a 12-under total of 276 as a team.

The top six teams from the West/South Central Regional and two low individuals not on an advancing team move on to the NCAA Division II Championship set for May 19-23 at the PGA National Resort in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Mustangs stand in sixth place through two rounds with an 18-over total of 558, and are behind Colorado Christian (542/-34), Oklahoma Christian (547/-29), California State-East Bay (549/-27), St. Mary's (553/-23), and West Texas A&M (557/19).

MSU holds slim leads over California State-San Bernardino (559/-17), Colorado State-Pueblo (560/-16), and California State-Monterey Bay (561/-15).

Senior James Perry matched a season low with a 7-under 65 to lead the way for the Mustangs. The Salado, Texas, native carded an eagle and six birdies on the way to moving up 41 spots and into 11th place with a two-round, 7-under total of 137.

Fellow senior Gatlin Goad followed an opening round 74, by riding a six-birdie effort to a 4-under 68 in the second round. He moved into a tie for 41st with a 2-under 142.

Ryan Griff logged four birdies on his way to a 1-under 71 in the second round. The freshman from Bulverde, Texas, carded a 2-under 70 in the first round, and is tied for 31st with a 3-under 141.

Senior Seth Bearden battled his way to a even-par 72 in the second round is also tied for 31st with a 3-under 141, while fellow senior Trevor Walsh recorded scores of 71 and 80 for a 7-over 151.

St. Mary's junior Baptiste Touchard tops the individual leader board with a 15-under total of 129, carding scores of 63 and 66. He takes a two-stroke leader into the final round over Colorado Christian senior Xavier Bighaus.

Midwestern State tees off for the final round of the NCAA Division II West/South Central Reginal Saturday morning between 10:20 and 11 a.m. (Central Time).
