No. 2-ranked Mustangs roll past Rambelles

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- – No. 2-ranked Midwestern State rolled to its 10th consecutive dual match victory with a 5-2 triumph over No. 28-ranked Angelo State at MSU Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

Midwestern State is 16-1 this season and has opened the conference campaign with five straight wins. The Mustangs improved to 5-0 at home this season and earned their second straight win over the Rambelles, who are 1-3 when visiting the Stang Gang.

Camila Garcia clinched the victory for the Mustangs with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Avery Durham at No. 5 singles. Garcia has won four of her last five singles matches and is 8-3 in the No. 5 position this season.

Anda Ghinga and Jessica Binzari, the No. 20-ranked doubles team in Division II, clinched the first point of the dual with a 6-4 win over No. 13-ranked Avery Durham and Eva Schwartz. Sydney William and Sarah Mazaraki earned a seventh consecutive victory at No. 3 doubles — and improved to 11-2 as a duo this spring — with a 6-4 win over Jessica Sue Li and Ivet Stancheva.

Sofia Giraldo continues to mow down the competition at No. 4 singles, posting her sixth consecutive win in straight sets. The No. 24 ranked singles player in Division II dispatched Benedetta Raggiotti, 6-1, 6-4. Giraldo is 5-0 at No. 4 singles and 11-5 overall this season.

Ghinga won her seventh consecutive singles match for the Mustangs, defeating Jessica Sue Li at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Ghinga gave Midwestern State a 3-0 lead in the dual match and improved to 13-2 for the season. The senior from Romania has won 36 of her 41 singles matches over the past two campaigns.

Angelo State pulled into contention with wins in the top-two singles' positions. No. 56-ranked Rene Margaux defeated Hannah Yip at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-1, and Eva Schwartz rallied to upset No. 5-ranked Jessica Binzari at No. 1 singles, 0-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Alessia Dolce improved to 5-1 at No. 6 singles as she outlasted Ivet Stancheva, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Midwestern State visits Sul Ross State on Friday. First serve in Alpine, Texas, is scheduled for 9 a.m.
