WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- In its first dual match as the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, Midwestern State dominated Northwest Missouri State, 6-1, at MSU Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The Mustangs are now 10-1 for the season with a four-match winning streak.
Sarah Mazaraki and
Sydney Williams set the tone with a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles over Polina Gontaryk and Miru Nonaka.
Hannah Yip and
Sofia Giraldo breezed past Alva Norberg and Anne Pereira, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point.Â
No. 7-ranked
Jessica Binzari and
Anda Ghinga defeated 28th-ranked Camilla Franzin and Marielena Muench at No. 1 doubles, 6-3.
Binzari, ranked No. 5 in singles, clinched the dual match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over 53rd-ranked Muench at No. 1 singles. Binzari improved to 8-1 in singles matches this season and is 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
Ghinga earned her eighth singles victory of the season in the No. 4 position with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Franzin.
Yip improved to 5-2 at No. 2 singles as she pasted Gontaryk, 6-1, 6-0.
Williams earned her third straight win in singles with a 6-1, 7-5 victory against Pereira at No. 5 singles.
Freshman
Alessia Dolce of Italy improved to 3-0 at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Nonaka.
Norberg upset No. 14-ranked Giraldo in a match tiebreak at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 7-5, 10-4.
Midwestern State is back in action on Saturday against Newman. First serve at MSU Tennis Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
