WICHITA FALLS, Texas-- No. 1-ranked Midwestern State smashed Cameron 7-0 in its Lone Star Conference opener Tuesday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs extended their winning streak to six matches to improve to 12-1 on the season, while sending the Aggies to a second-straight loss as CU fell to 3-5.
The No. 2-ranked doubles duo of Jenna Goessel and Anastasia Uspenskaia gave Cameron early momentum with an impressive 6-1 win over No. 7-ranked
Jessica Binzari and
Anda Ghinga at No. 1.
That would be the Aggies only highlight of the afternoon.
MSU rebounded with a 6-2 win by
Sarah Mazaraki and
Sydney Williams at No. 3 doubles followed by a point clinching 6-4 win by No. 31-ranked
Camila Garcia and
Hannah Yip at No. 2.
The Mustangs put away the match by sweeping singles play including four by straight sets.
Sophomore
Sofia Giraldo, the No. 23-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II, came off of the court first witha 6-4, 7-5 wi over Magda Wawroska at No. 4.
No. 5-ranked Binzari rolled to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win over Uspenskaia at No. 1, then Ghinga delivered the clincher with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Goessel at No. 3.
Senior
Sydney Williams added a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Alexsa Paucar at No. 6, while Yip outlasted Martyna Jankowska 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-5 at No. 2.
Garcia finished out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Cameron's Anna Dueringer at No. 5.
Midwestern State faces Cowley College (Kan.) in a scrimmage Thursday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
