No. 9 Midwestern State sweeps past Southwest Baptist for fourth-straight win

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 9-ranked Midwestern State swept past Southwest Baptist, 7-0, for its fourth-straight win Tuesday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.

The Mustangs (7-2) take on UT Dallas Thursday afternoon at home. First serve is set for 2 p.m.

MSU got off to a positive start with Juan David Duque and Killian Guillou beating Southwest Baptist's Ivan Riolo and Alejandro Sanchez -- 6-3 -- at No. 3 doubles.

Senior Stephen Slocombe and Filip Vacula, the No. 37-ranked doubles team in NCAA Division II, took down 28th-ranked Juan Morresi and Marcio Silva, 6-2, at the No. 1 position to clinch the opening point for the Mustangs.

The win was Slocombe and Vacula's second victory over a ranked opponent this season as the duo leveled its season mark at 4-4.

Slocombe also clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over SBU's Bojan Radoman at No. 3 singles after Duque claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win over Riolo at the No. 6 position, and No. 46-ranked Bruno Sanchez rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Alejandro Sanchez at No. 2.

The Mustangs closed out the sweep by taking the final three matches off of the courts.

Vacula, who was 18th in the latest ITA Division II singles rankings, beat SBU's Marcio Silva 10-2 in a super tiebreaker at No. 1. Vacula split the first two sets, 6-2, 5-7.

MSU junior Philip Kamara won his fourth-straight match at No. 4, beating Alejandro Bravo, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Junior Jose Marquez closed out the match with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Morresi at No. 5, taking the tiebreaker, 14-12.

Southwest Baptist fell to 5-3 on the season.
