WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State is hosting the Mustang Round Up this weekend. The event features six teams playing 12 games over three days. Ten of the games will be played at Mustangs Park while a pair of games will be played at Holliday High School.
Midwestern State is playing two games on Saturday and closing out the event with two games on Sunday.
All of the games played at Mustangs Park will be available via streaming video on FloCollege. Subscriptions are available for $19.99 per month or $107.88 annually. Additionally, those who use a dot edu email address from an LSC member institution are able to sign up at a discounted subscription rate of $9.99 a month or $71.88 for the year. The negotiated pricing for LSC fans is only available at go.flosports.tv/partner/lone-star.
The action begins on Friday at Mustangs Park with Fort Hays State facing Northwestern Oklahoma State at 10 a.m. Northwestern Oklahoma State meets Southwest Baptist at 12:30 p.m. and Fort Hayes State faces Cameron at 3 p.m. The final game of the day features Southwest Baptist and Cameron at 5:15 p.m.
The Mustangs face Northwestern Oklahoma at 10 a.m. on Saturday and follow that up with a 12:30 p.m. game against Southwest Baptist. On Sunday, MSU meets Southwestern Oklahoma for a doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m.
Fort Hays State squares off with Southwestern Oklahoma and Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon in Holliday, starting at 1:30 p.m.
Cameron takes on Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southwestern Oklahoma in the final two games at Mustangs Park on Saturday, starting at 3 p.m.
Midwestern State (1-4) is playing in its home opener after starting the season at the D2 First Pitch Invitational in Conroe, Texas. MSU earned its first win of the year with a 5-4 victory over Regis at the Scrap Yard Sports Complex.
Addison Lindemann (1-1) worked six innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out two. Tatum Waller drove in two runs, while Camile Nunez and Jaycee Yezak each drove in a run for the Mustangs.
Midwestern State won eight of their last nine home games in 2024, and finished the campaign with a 9-17 home record. The Mustangs enter this year with a three-game home winning streak after sweeping Texas A&M International in a three-game series to close out last season.
Nunez had at least one hit in all five games last week and is hitting .444 (8-for-18) to start the season, and she extended her hitting streak to 12 games after closing last season with a seven-game hitting streak.
The senior shortstop opened last season with a six-game hitting streak. Nunez had at least one hit in 16 of her last 18 games last season, and she finished the year with a .280 batting average.
Nunez and Yezak are leading the team with four RBIs apiece. Nunez has a home run and a double, while Yezak has two doubles and is hitting .385 to start the season.
Sophomore outfielder Sydney Linn appeared in four games and had two multi-hit performances in Conroe. She finished the opening weekend 5-for-12 (.417).
Jessika Roberts is hitting .286 (2-for-7) with an on-base percentage of .444 and was successful on all three stolen base attempts in Conroe. Midwestern State is 6-of-8 on stolen base attempts through its first five games.
Lindemann started in the circle twice last week, and the sophomore hurler recorded 11 strikeouts through 12 innings. She allowed seven earned runs on 14 hits and issued seven walks. Lindemann also hit two batters and gave up six extra-base hits, including one home run.
Midwestern State has a 3-2 record in its all-time series with Northwestern Oklahoma, but the Rangers defeated MSU last season in the Mustang Round Up, 7-1. Lindemann worked 4 2/3 innings against Northwestern Oklahoma State last season and allowed three earned runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Mikey Dominguez drove in the only run of the game for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs have won all three previous meetings with Southwest Baptist, but the two schools have not met since MSU scored a 3-1 victory at the Drury Invitational in February of 2021. The Bearcats have lost two previous visits to Wichita Falls and have been outscored by the Mustangs in those games, 23-4. In 2017, MSU pounded Southwest Baptist, 10-3. In 2009, the Mustangs crushed the Bearcats in five innings, 13-1.
Midwestern State has dominated the series with Southwestern Oklahoma State, 30-8, but the Bulldogs outslugged MSU in the Mustang Round Up two years ago, 10-8. Midwestern State outhit SWOSU, 11-9, but five MSU pitchers issued 15 walks in the loss. Midwestern State is 15-4 all-time when hosting the Bulldogs.
The Mustangs begin Lone Star Conference play next week as St. Mary's makes a Valentine's Day appearance at Mustangs Park for a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
